Lessons in Life

So I recently learned a new life lesson!

The other night a group of my friends decided to play soccer in the church gym. I was wearing sandals so I just decided to play barefoot. I didn't anticipate how competitive the group of friends I was playing with would get, so I figured I in turn wouldn't get too aggressive. This was a huge mistake on my part. Maybe I was just being oblivious to everyone else but I really got into the game and soon I was hurt.

I honestly don't remember what happened. I just know that all of a sudden my big toe on my left foot was throbbing in pain. Even though I could barely walk, let alone RUN, I continued to play. You may ask why, and to be honest I ask myself that same exact question. But not paying attention to the utter stupidity of the decision, I continued playing until I accidently kicked the ball with my left foot out of pure reflex.

Stupid oh how very stupid I was!

My big toe is broken or sprained or jammed or something. I have to go to the doctors to find out, but I'm sure it's not good, considering the fact that I can barely walk and it's an ugly blue color.

As I sat out and watched the rest of the game I talked to my friend Brian who had recently broken a rib playing soccer. He told me that it was my own fault for playing soccer without shoes on. He then continued with asking me "And what have you learned from this?"

I responded with a humble "Not to play soccer without shoes."

"That's right," Brian said. He then continued with, "I've learned in my life the stupider decisions someone makes the unluckier they get."

I didn't need his pointed look at my mangled toe to know that he was talking about my decision to play soccer without shoes.

Needless to say that never again will I play soccer without shoes. But what Brian said has stuck with me. It's so very true that in life we all make stupid decisions that leave us with unlucky results. If we want to lead a luckier life than maybe we should start making smarter decisions!
